Kitimat Travel Guide
• A WorldWeb.com Travel Guide for Kitimat, BC, British Columbia.
Welcome to Kitimat, BC!
Kitimat, BC, is located 50 km (31 mi) south of Terrace in the Great Bear Rainforest. The history of this community is tied to that of the Haisla Aboriginal people, so much so that their original name for the city—meaning people of the snow—has stuck, although the spelling has changed slightly from Kitimaat. Industry is what brought many people to this isolated area, while stunning scenery, a friendly community and an abundance of nature is the reason most people stay—or visit. The city's rich past can be uncovered at the Kitimat Centennial Museum and the traditions of the Haisla people can be explored at the Kitimaat Village. Wildlife is abundant in the surrounding wilderness and ocean, making Kitimat a prime location for fishing and hunting trips. On a warm summer's day, the people of Kitimat can often be found at Hospital Beach, enjoying a picnic and watching the cares of the world drift away with the tide and the ships.Tourist Attractions
